Romance on a budget
Jane and I are getting married in June. We’d like a honeymoon somewhere that feels special and romantic, but buying a new house means we can’t afford anywhere tropical and really exotic. Can you please suggest some destinations? Thanks to a generous aunt we have between £1,000 and £1,500 to spend. Nathan, UK

How about two idyllic weeks on the Red Sea, Taba Heights to be precise? It is a lovely, quiet, idyllic resort with 4 and 5 star hotels offering half board and all-inclusive, both options easily within your budget. With a fab beach, lovely spas, the chance to snorkel on some great reefs, an 18-hole golf course and a new marina, it makes a great honeymoon destination. The ‘dine around’ option allows you to have a change of scenery at dinner. There are even plans for a casino.

For romance on a budget, I would suggest the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. Here you can get some fabulous romantic properties right on the beach which would be perfect for a honeymoon. If you wanted to go one step further, you could get married here too! Prices from around £650 for one week and £850 for two weeks.

Italy is always romantic, but for that ultimate ‘special place’ I would send you to the Greek Ionian islands, to Ithaka or Kefalonia, the setting of one of the oldest love stories. The islands were home to Penelope, who professed undying love for her husband Odysseus while he was away fighting the Trojans. All parts of the islands are quiet, and it’s not hard to find a secluded beach. Another Penelope to grace their shores was Penelope Cruz during the romantic film Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, which was filmed in Sami, Kefalonia.
