Short relaxing honeymoon break?
I’m getting married next May but neither of us will have the time (or the money) for a long honeymoon. Where can we go for a romantic, easy short break where we can just relax in peace and quiet and some luxury? Tricia and Gareth

I suggest the Chedi Hotel in Oman for its wonderful ambience of understated luxury, peace and tranquility. There is not much to do in Oman other than a visit to the desert, a trip to the beautiful Mosque and limited shopping options. So it’s a perfect destination for lazing by the hotel pool. The Chedi caters mainly for couples and does not encourage families.

Flying time from the UK is just under seven hours with British Airways and because the time difference in May is only three hours there’ll be little, if any, jet lag. Prices compare well with Dubai which has become very expensive over the last few years. Oman is an up and coming destination. Visit it now before tourism arrives in a big way.

Venice may seem an obvious choice, but there is good reason for its popularity with honeymooners. Try and plan your honeymoon during the winter months or early spring, as in summer Venice can be swamped (!) with visitors, making negotiating its narrow walkways and bridges not quite the relaxing and romantic experience it should be. But you can’t beat Venice when it’s quiet – that’s when it’s at its atmospheric best, particularly during the evening when the waterways are still and it has an atmosphere all of its own.
