James Bedding reports on Cyprus - Best For
Posted On 10.04.08
Sun worshippers: in summer Cyprus enjoys an average of 12 hours of sunshine a day. Even in December, you can expect an average six hours of sunshine a day with average temperatures of 18C in the day and 9C at night.

Nature lovers, especially off-season: from February to April the island is covered in spring flowers. Birdwatchers flock here to see over-wintering birds as well as spring and autumn migrants.

Outdoorsy types: the pine-covered Troodos mountains, which rise to nearly 2,000 metres, are great walking country. They also offer thrilling mountain-bike descents. There are extensive opportunities for sailing, windsurfing, diving and other water sports along the coast.

Culture fans: as well as extensive classical archaeological sites, Cyprus has a unique architectural legacy: a collection of Byzantine chapels. They are hidden in folds of the Troodos mountains. The chapel walls are covered with richly coloured frescoes and collectively protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
