On a Nile Cruise with Alison Rice - Best Avoided
Posted On 29.02.08
Offering gifts or cash to the many children who’ll sweetly pester you. It’s difficult to avoid their pleas but it’s better to send a cheque to a reputable charity than encourage little ones to skip school. Plan International and UNICEF charities have child-centred projects in Egypt.

Sightseeing in a large crowd is a downside of the lower-priced, big boat cruises where shore excursions can end up as shopping trips sandwiched between temples – less well-paid guides need the shops’ commissions. Keen Egyptologists should choose a smaller boat with a well-qualified tour guide who speaks your language. Your Travel Counsellor can advise.

Cruising with very young children: they can feel very restricted on board. Nile cruise boats don’t have the many different facilities of the ocean-going cruise ships. The tombs and temples aren’t very child-friendly.
