Fred Mawer reports on The Land of Make-Believe - Tips
Posted On 12.04.07
  • To save queuing, buy your attraction tickets before you depart the UK. Don’t forget that we can book them for you. Joanne Cowdery, Travel Counsellor

  • Wear comfortable trainers, take plenty of water and a waterproof for wet rides. Cathie O’Dea, Travel Counsellor

  • Buy one or two soda cups per family and fill them up for free from the soda fountains in the parks – it’s surprising how much you drink when it’s hot. The I-Ride Trolley is a cheap, fun way to get around International Drive: $1 a trip and kids under 12 ride free (with an accompanying adult). Linda Buckingham, Travel Counsellor

  • If you’re on a budget, fill up at the all-you-can-eat buffets. Go for breakfast at around 10.30 and they bring lunch out at 11 so you can have that too. Or lunch at 3.30 and they start dinner at 4, so you get to choose from both menus. David Griffin, Travel Counsellor

  • Pre-book a table on the waterfront at the Rose & Crown at Epcot for the best view of the amazing fireworks and the best fish and chips. Sarah Todd, Travel Counsellor

  • To help identify your car among the thousands in the car parks, tie a ribbon on the aerial or put something brightly coloured on the back seat. Sarah Eltham, Travel Counsellor

  • As a rule, you’re better off eating away from the theme parks, where meals are much better value. Try the Australian-themed Outback Steakhouses, which do top-notch steaks with all the trimmings for under a tenner. Fred Mawer, travel writer

  • Orlando is more expensive than other parts of Florida, even in the discount shopping malls, so if you have a car it’s worth driving to an out-of town shopping mall. Cathie O’Dea, Travel Counsellor

  • Orlando Premium Outlets, a factory outlet mall of upmarket and mainstream clothes and shoe shops off the southern end of International Drive, has massive discounts. You’ll also find a Disney store here, selling souvenirs at much lower prices than in shops in the theme parks. Fred Mawer, travel writer
