Queues: If you’re visiting the Louvre, buy tickets in advance – see www.louvre.fr for the options. The museum is open late (and is therefore more relaxed) on Wednesday and Friday evenings.
Traffic: French drivers pay little attention to pedestrian crossings, so be vigilant, even at traffic lights. At times central Paris grinds to a halt, so if you’re taking a taxi, allow time for delays.
Petty theft: Avoid people offering to help with ticket machines, and beware of pickpockets when in crowds. Paris may be near and familiar, but travel insurance is still essential.
The Champs-Elysées: It’s famous but also very long and tiring with a mixed bag of shops.
