When you need a taxi, go to the nearest rank, rather than wait in the street. A white light means they’re free.
In France, all bills include tax and service – so tipping is entirely at your discretion. Most shops are closed on Sundays, except in the Marais and along the Champs-Elysées.
To buy food and gifts to take home that day, visit the wonderful morning market in boulevard Richard Lenoir (take the Métro to Bastille).
If it’s raining, take a walk through the historic shop-filled arcades and galleries near the Palais Royal. Two of the best are Galerie Vivienne and Passage Verdeau.
