Because South Africa offers a great safari plus so much more. Tourism has boomed in the last decade and you can have a good holiday here whatever your budget. The climate is inviting, the people are charming, the landscapes sensational – and there’s no jet-lag. Head for Cape Town if you want great beaches, hip hotels, superb wines and fine dining at bargain prices. Namaqualand offers rolling fields that blaze with spring flowers in August and September, while KwaZulu-Natal is home to the famous battlefields of the Zulu and Boer Wars. Safari options range from malaria-free reserves like Lalibela, near Port Elizabeth, to the rhino-rich sanctuary of Hluhluwe- Umfolozi and the Kruger, the oldest national park in Africa. If you’ve something to celebrate, private game reserves like Singita and Ulusaba are the place to safari in high style.
