Andrew Eames talks to us about Tenerife - Best For
Posted On 03.04.07
Families with small children
Base yourself in the south. The family attractions are better and more numerous, and so too are the beaches.

Romantic short breaks
Scheduled airlines tend to fly in via Tenerife’s northern airport, so stay local on the north coast, perhaps in one of the colonial hotels – Garachico’s Quinta Roja, or Puerto de la Cruz’s Monopol.

Lazing and sunbathing
Go to ground in the Grand Hotel Bahia del Duque, in the southern resort of Adeje. The architecture of this luxury resort, which recently hosted David Beckham and family, includes all the major Canarian styles, so you don’t even need to leave the hotel to get a feel for the islands.

Intrepid adventurers
Island-hopping is for you. There’s a choice of travelling by ferry or by plane, with the former far more charismatic if you’ve got the time. Lanzarote and Gran Canaria are already well-known destinations, so I’d particularly recommend the remoter islands to the north-west: Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro. Steep, rugged and beautiful.
